Levantine Hill is rated 5 red stars by James Halliday (Australian wine critic). Even more impressively, Huon Hooke rates them the 30th best winery in the country, ahead of Penfolds (31), Yangarra, Woodlands, Shaw, and Smith, Torbreck.

Levantine has superb vineyards and growers and a brilliant winemaker in Paul Bridgemen who was formerly the winemaker for Yarra Yering.

Levantine’s lofty ambitions are well encapsulated by the following quote “We hope this estate will transcend man’s inevitable mortality and brief custodianship of all things material.”

Fortunately, the proof is in the bottle as confirmed by Jeremy Oliver who says “Levantine Hill produces wines of European elegance and subtlety and its quality aspirations are frankly inspiring.”

Tasting Notes

Tasting notes from the London Wine Competition:

"Fruit-driven nose with persistent dark red fruits—red berries, cherries, and raspberries—on the palate with hints of vanilla, sun-dried tomato, and leather. A full-bodied wine with great acidity and a lingering finish."

Year in and year out, our Estate Pinot Noir is a deeply complex wine with a refined aromatic profile. Beautifully balanced from aging in the finest French oak, this silken textured Pinot Noir will become even more supple with careful cellaring.

The excellent 2019 vintage followed a somewhat classic pattern for the region with a propensity to a slow build-up of heat throughout each week culminating in a release of rain and tempering cool conditions ahead of the next slow build-up. This ebb and flow dynamic of temperature and rainfall across the growing season developed a complex set of concentrated aromas and flavors from our four individual vineyard blocks that contribute to our Estate Pinot Noir blend.

The combination of differences in site aspect, soil types, clonal material, and ripeness levels, in concert with the seasonal conditions, contributed to the exceptional character of the 2019 vintage.
