Tasting Notes:
A fruity, intense liqueur with hints of licorice transport drinkers to the north of Spain where this drink was first created.
Pacharan is a beautiful liqueur that is made from sloe berries. These berries are found on the blackthorn bush and present a delicious flavor. When unripened, these berries are extremely tart and difficult to eat. However, after cold winters, the berry’s flavor is tempered and takes on a slightly sour, plum-like flavor.
Pacharan hails from the Basque region in the north of Spain. Pacharan is officially the Destination of Origin and can only be called pacharan Navarro if it is indeed made in this region and follows the strict standards set forth. Pacharan has a deep, fruity flavor thanks to the sloe berries. Notes of plum and dark fruit are observed. On top of this, distillers add anise to the mix to impart a welcome licorice flavor.
Pacharan is best-served cold (from the fridge) and is usually consumed as a digestif. It was originally used in the middle ages as a form of medicine to help cure digestive issues.
